featherproof
books is an indie publisher dedicated to doing whatever we want. This might take the form of publishing an idiosyncratic novel, design book, or something in between. We love paper, but we're not afraid of computers. Our free downloadable mini-books are an invitation to all ten fingers to take part in the book-making process. We also have an experiment in attention span: the TripleQuick Fiction iPhone app. No matter the medium, we see our authors as creative partners involved in every step of publication. We make our own fun.

We offer editorial and design internships occasionally. Right now, they are all closed. You can watch this space for an application window. All other eager beavers, we're going to have to ignore.
Also, we never have paying positions, so that's not the best email to send us either. It's hard out here for a press.
Find us on our new favorite site, Goodreads!
Or on MySpace and be our MyFriend.
Or the Facebook Group
Or even Friendster, because somewhere in the universe, it's still 2001.
S U B M I S S I O N S
NOTE: As of March, 2010, submissions are still closed. We hope to start up again this summer. But who knows, turns out we're really bad about this. If you've already sent us your story or manuscript, fear not, we're going to read it. In fact, that's why we're taking this little break, so we can read all of the great work that's been submitted and respond to all of you gracious, patient and attractive people. We'll let everyone know when we've surfaced, but for now, we're closed. Thanks for understanding.
Mini-Books
We love short stories so much that we think some deserve to be their own books. Any length is fine, but we are especially fond of these numbers of words: 300, 1500, and 3,000.
Books
We’re mostly interested in fiction. Especially if it’s fun. There’s no need to submit a query letter – just go ahead and send us the first 50 pages or so, enough to give us a taste. We’ll let you know if we want more. Have patience, we read slowly, but we will get back to you. The best way for us to find out if you’re a good fit is to read your manuscript. The best way for you to find out if you’re a good fit for featherproof is to read books we’ve already published. We like authors who meet us halfway.
We prefer e-mail, it saves paper.
Thanks for thinking of us!
