| Double Release Party at the Hideout, Saturday, August 18th MAKE: A Chicago Literary Magazine celebrates the release of issue #5 & MARVIN TATE celebrates the release of his first solo CD, Family Swim. Wabansia, 8:30pm (http://www.hideoutchicago.com) What: Readings from contributors, including Pulitzer Prize nominee Bruce Olds, and others TBD, begin at 8:30pm, followed by musical performances. A short set by Eyes Ears Nose (http://www.myspace.com/eyesearsnose) opens the show. The remarkably soulful Adam Fitz (http://www.myspace.com/adamfitz) follows. Legendary Chicago performer Marvin Tate headlines with his full band: Leroy Bach (ex-Wilco, Beth Orton), Ryan Rapsys (Euphone, Ambulette), & Emmett Kelly (The Cairo Gang). Plus special guest performers including, Lea Tshilds, Avery R. Young, Tina Howell, & Amy Warren. Hideout Dance Party with DJ Matt Fields erupts immediately after. Must be 21 with valid ID Marvin Tate is releasing his first solo CD, Family Swim, produced by Leroy Bach, writes for the literary magazine MAKE, and teaches poetry in the Chicago Public Schools. Marvin also plays with the indie all-stars, the Boogie Band. Marvin Tate was born and raised in Chicago. His first book of poems, A Schoolyard of Broken Dreams was published in 1994 by Tia Chu Cha. For ten years he led the hyperbolic soul band D-Settlement through critically acclaimed shows. Adam Fitz is best known for his solo work and the subsequent self-released album, Between the Incident and the Event . With a great big, gravely voice that lifts even the most introspective chin, he is a navel-gazing antidote. MAKE: A Chicago Literary Magazine, issue #5 carries the theme, “City in Biography.” Featured work includes “Five Dead Guys,” short stories from John McNally, an interview with Bruce Olds, author of The Moments Lost, and a poetry section selected by guest editor, Ed Roberson, which includes new work from Carolyn M. Rogers, Reginald Gibbons, and Quraysh Ali Lansana. This issue also debuts a new design and layout. |
