Did we promise to start this year off with a bang? We did? Well, since you asked for it...
First up we've got two new minis. The Lovers of Vertigo by Timothy Schaffert and Anniversary by Laura Bramon Good. Excellent little books both, so print them out now!
Then the big travel news: featherproof is going to the big city! Remember that scene at the beginning of the first Muppet movie, where Kermit leaves the swamp to seek his fame and fortune, and almost crashes his bike into a steamroller? It's going to be exactly like that.
We are sharing bookfair Table 290 with Switchback Books in NYC for AWP. The booth is in Americas Hall I, and here's a link to a map. The bookfair is open to the public on Saturday, February 2. Please stop by and say hi!
Also, Zach will be reading as part of a Chicago group, off-site during AWP! It's at a bar that used to be a massage parlor! Come check it out!
AWP Off-Site READING presented by Chicago publications and organizations: ACM, Canarium Books, Danny’s Reading Series, featherproof books,

And, as an exciting prequel to all this excitement featherproof's own Molly Each is launching the next issue of her own magazine. Here's what she says:
"It's been a long time coming, but No Touching's Home Issue is finally here. Well, almost. We've just sent the proofs to the printer and they look fantastic. We have a new design that's totally shaken up the look of No Touching. Magazines should be ready in a couple of days, which means it's time to get geared up for the launch party.
We'll again be hosting a reading at the wonderful Danny's Tavern (1951 W. Dickens Ave., Chicago) on Sunday, Jan. 27 from 7-9 p.m. Expect scintillating readings from some combination of our esteemed contributors: Ben Ness, Molly Each, J. Adams Oaks, Molly Biell, Byron Flitsch, Thad Reuter, Jotham Burrello, Andrew Reilly, Wancy Young Cho, Lauren McGuire and Ira Brooker. Your $5 suggested donation goes toward production of our next edition... the Surprise Issue. Hope you can make it!!"
We'll be announcing the Pre-Sale of our next book, This Will Go Down on Your Permanent Record, soon! (But if you're here now, you'll notice it's already on secret Pre-Pre-Sale. Order now, and we'll put some goodies in your package, just for paying attention.)
It ain't easy being green!
Love,

Long time no talk. But the new year is here, and we're back in the swing. It's going to be a great one for featherproof. Our company resolution is to have the coolest year ever, and we think we're on our way. Hip artists, like Damien James here, are already being caught by paparazzi wearing our shirts. We're practically Louis Vuitton!
We know it's going to be the coolest because we're starting off with such an awesome book, This Will Go Down on Your Permanent Record, by the talented Susannah Felts. We've got an excerpt in mini-book form up on the site now, so browse on over and download yourself a free copy.
Susannah has a smashing interview up on What to Wear During an Orange Alert, you can check that out here. If she sounds friendly to you, you'd be right. You oughta befriend her on Goodreads.com, where the book is already storming 'to-read' lists.
Chicago Public Radio was nice enough to go public with their anticipation. You can hear about our upcoming year 34 minutes into this show.
This year is going down on our permanent record book: The Coolest Ever.
Positions have been filled! Thanks! A T T E N T I O N ! I N T E R N S !
We've currently got some internships open at featherproof books! We offer a 360 degree view of the publishing industry, from selecting manuscripts, to readings, to marketing, PR, and promotion, you'll do it all. There are opportunities for reading, writing, and connecting with Chicago's vibrant literary community at every turn. You won't be getting anyone's coffee here. We are 100% D.I.Y., and there's plenty of hands-on work to be done. We offer no compensation, but guarantee a boat-load of fun. Contact Zach for more information.

Take cover, the holidays are coming. Before you disappear into some over-decorated world of sweater'd family, binge eating, and false cheer, let us be you last literary stand.
Do something fun for yourself this weekend, is what we're saying. Here's a trinity of suggestion. On Saturday featherproof boys, and Switchback girls will be gathered 'round a table at the DIY Trunk Show, 10am to 6pm, at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse. Ok, we'll only be on one side of it, selling books. But you should come anyways. Then, on Sunday night, hear Jonathan do his reading thing at Sunday Salon, a cozy little reading series at the Charleston. Finally, have your last fling with nightlife at the Funky Buddha Lounge, (you heard me right, I said the Funky Buddha Lounge) where Jonathan will read alongside some of the city's best performance poets, which frightens him.
And, of course, shopping season is upon us, so we're required to remind you that his book, Hiding Out, makes an excellent gift. As does our New Orleans postcard book, Degrees of Separation. It got a nice mention on a site whose name we can really relate to: Print Fetish. While you're surfing the net, swing by the brand new Bleached Whale. We're one half of them, and they are one half of us, and our books look super-sexy in the studio.
So get it all out of your system, before you're forced to listen to incoherent stories told by drooling great aunts, or watch three football games in a row with farting cousins. Just remember, featherproof is with you at all times. Especially at pumpkin pie time. |
