Featherproof Books was founded in 2005 by Zach Dodson and Jonathan Messinger with the intent to publish whatever they want. In 2014 they passed the torch to Tim Kinsella who—with the help of Jason Sommer and Roosevelt University—will carry on this mission, publishing strange and beautiful fiction and nonfiction and post-, trans-, and inter-genre tragicomedy.

If you take any of the first names above, and add an '@', and then a 'featherproof.com', you'll get a working email address.

Distributed to the trade by Publishers Group West: 1700 Fourth Street, Berkeley, California 94710 (510.809.3700).

And a word about fulfillment: we're a pretty small shop here & we ship everything ourselves & since we're usually pretty busy what with actually making the books, we only mail orders about once a week. But you'll still get your book(s) pretty promptly. Drop us a line if you have any questions about your order!

Featherproof is not currently accepting submissions, so please don't blindly email us one. If you send us an unsolicited manuscript, we may not respond because we're working so hard on the stuff we are already publishing. Then your feelings will be hurt, and our feelings will be hurt because (a) we don't wanna hurt your feelings or anyone's feelings, we just want some real positive feelings out in this universe and/or all possible universes; and (b) we wish we could read your manuscript, but we swear to all that is holy we don't have the time right now. But someday we will! And that will be a glorious day for everyone. So check back here once in a while for updates, and in the meantime: keep writing and editing and writing and editing and writing and editing, et cetera. This shit is hard & good shit takes time.

"Careers" at Featherproof

Do you live in Chicago and love reading and independent publishing—but not too much, not in like a creepy obsessive way?

We are now accepting applications for a part-time position—to help mostly with marketing and publicity, but also some manuscript reading, editing and proofreading, and general shit that needs doing. Is it you? Or is someone you know the right person to join us in the good fight against psychic oppression everywhere?!

Applicants should be organized, reliable, and motivated—knowledgable about what it is we’re doing here, but also chill and funny most importantly. Email a resume & cover letter to hi [at] featherproof.com, and we'll see what happens!
